Southbury Faith In ActionFormerly Southbury Interfaith Social Concerns Committee
The Southbury Faith In Action Committee is open to representatives from each of the faith communities in Southbury. The purpose of the committee is to reach out to those people in the area in need of assistance, and offer what aid is available. Throughout the year, various educational offerings are presented on such topics as end of life decisions, health care, environmental concerns, and other topics of interest to the community at large. Two major annual events include the HomeFront Project in May, and the Tour de Tribury Bike-a-Thon in September. HomeFront - One day is set aside in May to help restore a local resident’s home to a warm, safe, and dry condition. Volunteers from all faith communities in town are welcome to work on one day toward that goal. All levels of skills are needed, and it is a wonderful opportunity to meet your neighbors and help each other. Young and old, skilled and unskilled, work side-by-side on HomeFront Day. Additional information may be found at www.homefrontprogram.org or on the scrapbook page of Sacred Heart Church at www.sacredheartchurch.info/scrapbook.html. Tour de Tribury Bike and Walk-a-Thon – This September event is an annual bike ride/walk that takes place within Southbury, Woodbury, and Middlebury and raises money for the Southbury Fuel Bank. The Fuel Bank assists families through difficult financial times by supplying much needed fuel to warm their homes during the winter season. 2012 will mark the twentieth year that the Tour de Tribury will take place. Each participant may choose a 10, 25, or 50 mile course. For those who don’t ride, a 5k walk may be chosen.
