Men's Prayer Group"Virtues are formed by prayer. Prayer preserves temperance. Prayer suppresses anger. Prayer prevents emotions of pride and envy. Prayer draws into the soul the Holy Spirit, and raises man to Heaven. - St. Ephraem
The Sacred Heart Church Men's Prayer Group gathers on Monday mornings around the Blessed Sacrament in the church for prayer and fellowship. As men of Faith, we pray for the needs of our families, our parish, our community, our country, and our world. Our format is simple - we start by saying a special scriptural version of the Holy Rosary interspersed with Bible verses from each mystery followed by a Chaplet of The Divine Mercy. After this, we pause for a few minutes of silent prayer before closing our session. We then head over to Starbucks or Panera for some coffee and fellowship. All men and teens are invited to participate - especially those who may not have had an active prayer life in the past. Don't worry or be intimidated if you're not familiar with the Rosary, or have never even heard of the Chaplet - we'll be happy to guide you along. It's important to understand that the richness and beauty of the rosary that has drawn in popes and saints alike is not in the mechanical repetition of prayers, but rather in the contemplation and meditation on the special events in Jesus' life as experienced by Mary and his disciples. Our meeting times are on Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 AM. Why so early? Because this is a time when all is calm and quiet, and fathers can step out before their children awake. It's a great way to start the week before getting caught up in the stress of work. There is no obligation to come every week - come whenever you can make it! Our meetings are held almost every Monday morning, and we maintain an email list for meeting reminders and cancellations. If you would like to be added to our list, please email us and we'll be happy to add you to our email distribution list. We're also happy to take prayer requests as well, whether or not you participate in the group. "For me prayer is a surge of the heart, it is a simple look towards Heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy." - Saint Therese of Lisieux
