Prayer Shawl Ministry

There is an ecstasy in the act of creation that matches the intensity of religious rapture; both partake of divinity and are gifts granted by the Great Creative Spirit.
Susan Gordon Lydon

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is an outreach of love and compassion. We are a group of women who knit or crochet prayer shawls in the knowledge that the shawl will bring comfort, healing, blessings, hope, warmth and peace to the recipient. Our shawls are knitted in prayer and as we say, “our knitting is our prayer”. Our meetings begin with the lighting of a candle reminding us of the presence of Jesus. The shawls enable people to encounter God’s love in a tangible way. All new members receive a folder containing prayers and directions for knitting or crocheting a shawl. Yarn is available at the meetings.

Knitting a shawl is a relaxing, peaceful activity as we all lead hectic lives. It is rejuvenating and calming and allows us to sit and relax our bodies and minds. This is the reward for creating a shawl.

Ladies unable to attend meetings can obtain yarn and directions and knit at home.

Our meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 9:30 am. and are always listed in the bulletin under “This week at Sacred Heart”. We follow the Region 15 school snow cancellation policy; also there is no meeting if there is a school snow delay.
