Parish Picnic - July 25, 2004

Despite uncertainties regarding the weather just hours before, we had a beautiful day for this year's parish picnic. There was a very large turnout for the event. Many people showed up to enjoy the day and share some time with their fellow parishioners.

The day started appropriately at Ballantine Park with the 11 o'clock mass. Father Joe spoke during the homily of the importance of prayer and having a personal relationship with Jesus.
Patty Richards, Melissa Nimmo, and the adult choir helped to make the outdoor mass special. Vin Berluti handled the sound system during the mass and provided music throughout the rest of the day.
Once the mass was over, the festivities began! The Knights of Columbus once again handled the grill to provide burgers, dogs, and sausage patties for the crowd.

This year's picnic featured a dunking booth which was manned by various members of the parish throughout the day.
Of course, some of the dunkings were done legitimately with a softball...but others were caused by some pranksters behind the scenes...
A bounce house was provided for the younger children, who seemed to really enjoy it.
While the kids had their fun, the adults enjoyed a few games of bingo or just relaxed and enjoyed some pleasant conversation.
Deacon Vin Cassidy was the bingo caller for most of the day.
The Parish Nurse Ministry arranged to have a roaming camper from one of the local hospitals at the picnic. They also took blood pressure readings throughout the day.
The camper was filled with reading materials and pamphlets that promoted healthy living.
Several of the teens donated their time to provide face painting and temporary tattoos.
These girls were especially enthusiastic to show off their artistry!
Pony rides were provided for the children, which was a very popular attraction.
And of course, we couldn't let the day go by without having Father Joe take a turn in the dunking booth!
Young and old, they all came to try to give Father Joe a proper dunking.
Joe Ruggiero was on to make sure that all the rules were followed. Well, ok, maybe he hit the button a few times himself...
As the day's festivities drew to a close, Mary Korsu helped to call off the numbers for the yearly raffle and everyone enjoyed a last cup of coffee or a few cookies.
These pictures are just a small sample of the activities that were caught on film. It was a wonderful day and a great opportunity for fellow parishioners to pray, relax and share some time together. Special thanks go to Mary Korsu, Joe Ruggiero, the Knights of Columbus, and all the other behind the scenes people who helped to make this event happen!
