2007 Good Friday Faith Walk

On Good Friday, youth from Sacred Heart, together with the youth groups from St. James Lutheran Church, Southbury UCC, Church of the Epiphany, South Britain Congregational, and several other local churches, gathered together for our annual Good Friday Faith Walk. In spite of cold temperatures, and a brisk North wind, the event was extremely well attended this year. Hundreds followed the youth through the streets of Southbury from St. James to Sacred Heart Church as they reenacted the traditional Stations of the Cross. Thanks to Matt Zurowski, Mary Korsu, and everyone else who helped to organize this wonderful event.

Part of the large crowd of the followers of Jesus, leaving St. James church on their way to the third station.
Our pastor, Fr. Joe joined the walk with many of the parishioners.
The crowd stops at the Town Hall for the Third station
Jesus, carrying his cross, guarded by the Roman soldiers, and followed by a large group of disciples, continues on the Way of the Cross.
Rev. Pitman of Southbury UCC follows with his youth group, on the road to the cross.
Station 4, Jesus meets his mother.
Matt, Youth Minister at Sacred Heart looks like he would like to have the weather a little warmer. And after a long night with the overnight youth retreat, he deserves a big "Thank You" for all his work with the young people in the parish.
Thanks to the Knights of Columbus for their annual crowd control efforts. Always at the edges to keep an eye on things to make sure everyone has an enjoyable day.
Gathered at the gazebo, we hear about Jesus meeting the women of Jerusalem.
The great drama of redemption draws nearer to it's conclusion. Jesus, weary and exhausted, climbs the hill of Calvary.
Station 10, Jesus is stripped of his clothes. There is such a thing as above and beyond the call of duty. The day was frigid, the wind blowing at a brisk pace. Yet Alex went through every detail of the suffering of Jesus.
"Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
"Father into Your hands, I commend my spirit." It is finished. The great drama of redemption has played itself our again in our midst. Again, evil seems to be victorious. Yet we know the final outcome. The triumph of life over death.
When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who was himself a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be handed over. Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it in clean linen and laid it in his new tomb that he had hewn in the rock. Then he rolled a huge stone across the entrance to the tomb and departed. But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary remained sitting there, facing the tomb.
The choir was composed of members from several area churches, and all ages were there to lend their voices to the occasion.
