On February 3, 2008, the Southbury Interfaith Social Concerns Committee sponsored the annual Musical Gala. As in the past several years, B'Nai Israel Synagogue generously allowed the use of their beautiful sanctuary for the Gala. The donations from those in attendance will be used in support of this years AmeriCares HomeFront project, as well as the Southbury Fuel Bank, the Southbury Food Bank, and the Southbury Needy Fund. AmeriCares is an international relief organization that used local volunteers to restore an area home to a safe, warm and dry condition. On stage to start things off is the always popular Willie Nininger. Assisted this time by John Kuhner on keyboard, Ken Melton on percussion and Chris Haines on electric guitar. You can find additional information about Willie and his schedule by clicking here. |
Willie keeps things rolling. Just a part of the enthusiastic crowd attending this years Gala. |
Following Willie's time, a break allowed everyone time to stretch a bit, and get some refreshment. After break, the Pomperaug High School Chamber Singers directed by Christian Banach entertained with a variety of song styles. |
And they brought their own accompaniment with them. |
And a solo that was just wonderful. A truly talented group of young people from our High School. |
Following the Singers, we heard the Pomperaug High School Jazz Band. This group really knows how to play and entertain a varied audience. |
Everyone Up! Lets play. Lots of tapping feet, and happy smiles all around. |
The reason the group is so good, and so well received is evident in the enthusiasm of the director, Robert D'Angelo. He really puts his all into his work, as is evident from the results. |
As a closing, we enjoyed the Pomperaug High School Chamber Orchestra. Another wonderful example of how the youth in our area have dedicated themselves to learning. |
Strings of every size and description. Not an easy group of instruments to master, but the young folk have done a wonderful job of showing how a little dedication goes a long way. Thanks to Director Linda Hughes for her hard work to inspire the players to a high level achievement. |

How do you suppose they get those things on the bus? |
