June 14, 2009 is a day many of us will remember for a long time. On this day, the new Allen Three Manual Organ was officially dedicated to the praise of God. We were privileged to be able to hear the organ put through its paces by one of the finest organ virtuosos in the country today, Mr. Aram Basmadjian. He demonstrated the capabilities of the organ, while at the same time keeping the audience entertained with a steady supply of wit. You may find additional information on Mr. Basmadjian by clicking here for his web site. Also, information on the Allen Organ can be found at their web site.

The guest of honor. Front row center sits the new Sacred Heart organ, waiting for Mr. Basmadjian to demonstrate this marvelous instrument. A little out of the usual spot, but easier for the audience to appreciate all that goes into making it work.
Fr. Joe and Sr. Pat prayed that this new instrument might add to the praise of God in the community of prayer.
The organ was blessed by Pattie, our organist, and Janet, our choir director, with Fr. Joe assisting.
Mr. Greg Martiros of G. Paul Music (Premier representative for Allen Organ serving the New England States) gave an introduction to both the organ and Mr. Basmadjian.
A full house is on hand as Mr. Basmadjian takes stage center and introduces himself, and the organ. Pictures were not permitted during the concert itself, but you may be sure that the audience was very appreciative of the music presented.
During a brief intermission, Mr. Basmadjian was available in the atrium to talk with members of the audience, and explain the contents of several CD's available for sale.
While back in the church, Mr. Martiros spoke with others about the capabilities of the instrument.
Sure does have a lot of keys, doesn't it? Not to mention peddles, pistons, stops, and a wide variety of other devices. Fortunately, Mr. Basmadjian took the time after the break to explain all this so we could all undestand.
Part of the audience during the break, enjoying each others company.
After the concert, there is nothing like some tasty home made snacks to top off the afternoon.
As the tables fill up, the line in grows ever longer. A good chance to spend some time with those we don't always see every day.
While the reception is under way, one of the more interesting events of the day unfolded back in the church. After all, we can't leave the organ in the middle of the sanctuary, can we? So Vince and Joe, with Mr. Martiros assisting, moved it back to its usual spot.
One last push, and we're home. Actually, it rolls surprisingly easily. Not what you might think an organ would weigh. But that's just one of the marvels of modern electronics.
