Hoof It For Haiti Sacred Heart Church April 30, 2011 ![]()
As part of Sacred Heart's commitment to it's sister parish in Haiti (Our Lady of Seven Sorrows, Gran Boulage) the Haiti Committee organized a run and walk. The purpose was to raise funds to assist our brothers and sisters in Haiti. As you can see below, the day was a greart success. Over 400 runners and walkers participated, enjoyed wonderful weather and each others company.
T-shirts at the ready. No race or walk is complete without a distinctive shirt.
Registration first, please. We have to know who's here, so we thank them.
And no race or walk is complete without a good supply of food, fruits, drinks, and other goodies. These beauties are ready to go.
The kids Hoof It, a 100 yard dash is lining up for the big event. Lots of cheering for the little guys and gals. This one is for the six and under crowd.
And the winner is...Everyone, since they all had a good time.
The 7 - 12 group had their own race. This one went around the church once. This is about 0.2 miles, just long enough.
Just before the start of the 5k walk/race, we all turned toward the flag, and sang the National Anthem. A good way to start.
OK now, we need to get organized here. Walkers in the rear please. And runners please position themselves in the starting gate based on expected pace/finish time.
And They're Off. Best to get out of the way, since these folks look like serious runners.
A more sedate group, the walkers came behind the runners, and enjoyed the same route along the river.
What, finished already? Seems like they just left, and the first runners are back already. Pretty quick group.
And they continued to cross the finish line, some looking fresh, some not. But all happy to have helped the cause of Haiti.
Food, of course. Lots of it, and all good after a hard day on the track.
At the end of the day, it can only be declared a great success. For the first ever Hoof It For Haiti, it went really well. The committee met a couple of days later to review the event, and start planning for next year.
