Tour de Tribury XIX
October 1, 2011

The Southbury Faith In Action (SoFIA) Committee again sponsored this year's Tour de Tribury Bike and Walk-A-Thon, the nineteenth year for the Tour. As before, the proceeds from the event went to support the Southbury Fuel Bank, an organization that helps residents of Southbury keep their homes warm throughout the winter season. Our thanks go out to the sponsors of the event, the riders, and the Knights of Columbus for their World Famous Hot Dogs, and the many volunteers who made the day a success. These pictures show but a small part of the day. The original ride day (Sept. 24) was rained out, and our rain date (Oct.1) wasn't much better. But it did go on, thanks to the efforts of many volunteers and participants..

Early in the morning, and Barry is hoping that the rain will let up soon. After all, we have some people who would like to have a nice bike ride today. Did I feel a drop?

We did have a couple of people who rode the 50+ mile route. Nothing like being prepared for anything. Hope those rain suits keep everyone reasonably dry.

Some of our volunteers discussing the plan of following the riders, and getting them fed at the end.

Pastor Shannon Rye Wall of South Britain Congregational was kind enough to join us for the day, and offer a blessing for each group as they prepared to leave.

And they're off. Or not. Is the rain going to continue? Will it clear soon? Should we wait? Decisions, decisions.

Ah! a glimmer of hope. Look, blue sky! There is hope.

A slightly larger group is ready for the 25 mile ride. Pastor Shannon sends them of with prayers for a safe journey.

Any questions from the 10 mile group? By this time, things were beginning to dry out a bit, and the the ride looked really inviting. As it always is, a pleasant ride along the Housatonic River.

Pastor Shannon was with us for all the groups. She is a welcome addition to the clergy association here in town.

Right after the 10 mile group left, it was time for the walkers to hit the sidewalks and enjoy a little fresh air and exercise.

And so another year closes on the Tour de Tribury. And next week, the planning committee will meet for one last time to review the program, and start planning for next year. Tour de Tribury XX is scheduled for Sept. 22, 2012. If you would be interested in helping plan this wonderful event, drop an e-mail. See You Then!!
