March For Life Washington, DC January 23, 2012
Every year since the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, people have gathered in our nation's capitol to offer silent protest against that decision, and discuss that, and other Respect Life issues with our elected representatives. This year many parishioners from the Waterbury area joined tens of thousands of others in the March for Life. Many activities were planned as part of a busy day, including opportunities to visit the offices of Rep. Murphy and Senator Blumenthal, Mass at various locations, and the rally and March. The weather forecast was not very promising. Cool and rain. But a stout heart, umbrellas, and layers of warm clothes prevailed. These photos show a small portion of a very busy day.

Our parishioners arrived late at the Mall, and were not able to hear any of the speakers scheduled for the day. By the time we arrived, the March was already underway. People eager to have their voices heard. People of all walks of life, all ages, all faiths, come together in a common cause.
Defend Life. That doesn't seem like a lot to ask of our leaders in Congress.
A steady stream of marchers go past the Capitol building.
And around to the other side toward the Supreme Court building.
Huge crowds, some stopping to hear a Respect Life presentation, others pressing on with the March, or heading home after a hectic, but fulfilling day.
This was the church group that generously allowed our parishioners to travel with them, use their bus, and enjoy their company. Two churches, St. Mark's and Our Lady of Good Council, both of Vienna, VA, combined to go together.
| At the end of the March, we can all breath a sigh of relief. A long, satisfying day. Time to stay at the Supreme Court and join in a prayer vigil, or head off to whatever transportation brought you here. Time to reflect on what it all means. |
